the line fascinates me. i see it everywhere.
lines defining shapes, defining lengths, depths, strengths.
and their weaknesses.
i work on panel initially with layers of acrylic then
later oil. i etch the oil layers. as the painting develops i draw,
sketch, carve, engrave, gouge. constant contact between head and
arm and hand. making my marks sometimes gently and other times forcefully.
i destruct to construct. i subtract to create.
i add words and lines. painting over them. rewriting,
redrawing. never symmetrical always balanced in some form or another.
i continue with no agenda just the pleasure of discovery of where
each line takes me.
as my work progresses, unexpected detours arise and
are welcomed. these deviations contribute to the uniqueness that
feeds the process, mood and atmosphere.
the depths and movements back and forth within my
paintings are the vital ingredients for me. there has to be energy.
there has to be movement. in whatever direction feels right. only
knowing when the work is complete when it is.
